Jack McDonald Military Service Appreciation Award
The Jack McDonald Military Service Appreciation Award was named in honor of the contributions of Professor Jack McDonald, BS ’60, MBA ’62, PhD ‘67, the first recipient of the Military Service Appreciation award and a staunch supporter and advocate for the Veterans Club.
Born in 1937 in Stockton, Calif., Professor McDonald received his BS in engineering with honors from Stanford in 1960. He began his career as an engineer at Hewlett-Packard Company, and received his MBA at Stanford in 1962. He served as a lieutenant and platoon leader in the U.S. Army’s 25th Infantry Division, and then returned to Stanford, completing his PhD in 1967.
Professor McDonald was awarded his first endowed professorship in 1978 by Dean Arjay Miller. He would go on to teach over 10,000 MBA and Executive Education students over a remarkable 50-year career at Stanford Graduate School of Business.
The Military Service Appreciation Award dinner unites the Stanford community and honors the outstanding contributions, courage, and commitment of past and present service members around the world.
This award recognizes a person who has served in the military, has an extraordinary track record of leadership, and is an example of outstanding achievement in business or business education.
